Feathers & Scales was born in June 2015 and quickly received approval from the Portuguese Tourism Office to begin operating by the end of August. We pioneered dolphin, whale, and bird watching tours based in Lisbon, offering a unique perspective on the city’s rich maritime history.
Our home port is the “Doca de Recreio do Bom Sucesso” situated right next to the iconic Belém Tower. This 16th-century fortification has witnessed centuries of exploration and discovery, serving as a gateway to the vast Atlantic Ocean.
The Tagus River estuary, a vital waterway that shaped Lisbon’s development, is now our playground.

A lifelong ocean connection
Our captain’s story is one woven by the Atlantic itself. Born and raised in Lisbon, a stone’s throw from the ocean’s embrace, the sea called to him from a young age.
Childhood memories are filled with long days on the beach, soaking up tales from seasoned fishermen. He spent countless hours observing the winter storms, learning the language of the waves and the flight patterns of seabirds. This deep connection to the ocean was a natural stepping stone to years spent diving the cold Atlantic depths.
A passion for discovery and friendly competition in spearfishing competitions fueled his exploration of the underwater world. Diving became a gateway to a hidden realm, revealing a vibrant tapestry of marine life.
By 16, this unwavering passion led him to pursue studies in marine biology and ecology during his high school years. Further education in fishing technology and the economics of the sea equipped him with a well-rounded understanding of the ocean ecosystem.
